Harvest Fescht

Celebrate the harvest, Pennsylvania German-style, at the 2011 Heritage Harvest Fescht on the historic grounds of the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University. This family event will be held Saturday, September 24, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We have plenty of children’s activities going on throughout the day including: pumpkin painting, scarecrow-making, yarn doll-making and more. There will also be live animals on-site to see and pet. Plus, compete against a pot-bellied pig in an apple bobbing contest.

There will also be historic and folk-life demonstrations at various times during the day. Some of these demonstrations include: blacksmithing, roof thatching, grain threshing.

Be sure to stop by the kitchen to see a demonstration of hearth cooking. There will also be several folk bands playing PA Dutch tunes.

Don’t miss the Old Time Plow Boys kitchen, where they’re always cooking delicious meals and desserts for reasonable prices. The Plow Boys will also have antique tractors on display and plowing demonstrations.

Local crafters of the Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen will be displaying and selling their wares.

Different from other years, Heritage Harvest Fescht will be a one-day-only event and admission is free!
